Acolastus blogs principally for his sanity and pleasure; if others are interested in his offerings, they are welcome. He is open to comment but will moderate offence or gratuitous abuse.
The Comedy of Acolastus, a morality play by the 16th Century Dutch cleric Willem De Volder, based on the Parable of the Prodigal Son, contains the line “in the Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is King”, which captures neatly the numbing effect of socialism on a society and the distressed state of Great Britain in 2009.
Contemporary Acolastus is neither young nor prodigal. He blogs mostly as a release for his frustration at the myopic and mendacious effects of socialism which increasingly afflict a land once hallmarked by liberty, personal freedoms, decency, and fairness.
Acolastus believes in the sovereignty of this country, which is now being gifted, by those charged with its security, to another power, without conflict, invasion, resistance or referendum.
He longs for more honest politics, which he is moved to hope will be forthcoming when the hypocritical, self-serving, egocentrics who currently befoul the offices of Government are ejected from power.
He believes in freedom of speech and healthy scepticism in all things.
He despairs that blind acceptance of dogma masquerading as science, fear curtailing liberty, and mediocrity disguised as excellence have led to an age where sceptical questioning of such issues is seen by many as perversion.
